Welcome to Unlocking the Future with 21st Century Keys, an online opportunity for teachers in the Seaman district. As Team Seaman, we will unlock doors of possibilities by motivating and inspiring students to integrate and interact with their environment to build a better future in the 21st Century and beyond.

Profiles of the 21st Century Learner

In response to the Kansas State Board of Education support of the 21st Century Partnership initiative, the Kansas Department of Education has developed "profiles" of the 21st Century Learner and 21st Century Learning Environment. These profiles can assist educators in a re-design of their schools or classrooms and will help guide the work of the department in creating integrated standards for Career Academics. Your keys contain a section of these profiles, which include:

5 unifying themes of the learning environment:

  • Relationships
  • Relevance
  • Rigor
  • Results
  • Responsive Culture
10 unifying themes of the 21st Century learner:
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
  • Communicating & Collaborating
  • Information, Communication, Technology & Media Literacy
  • Flexibility & Adaptability
  • Initiative & Self Direction
  • Social & Cross-Cultural Skills
  • Productivity & Accountability
  • Leadership & Responsibility
  • Employment & Career

Team Seaman-Learning Together

We will start our learning with an introduction at the SEC, then have time for online learning at your own pace. We'll be looking at different ways to integrate technology into the classroom by finding great examples online as well as creating some ideas of our own that we can implement so we can provide those 21st Century Learning opportunities for our students. With our fellow cadre members, we will work as teams to learn about ways that we can use technology in our teaching and to help better ourselves.

Communication will take place on this wiki. We will start by creating wiki pages for each team where you will make posts about what you have learned, as well as posting projects or links to projects that you have created through the assignments. One of the greatest things about using wikis and working in an online environment is the communication and collaboration that can result in a greater opportunity for learning!
